This is the original artwork for a comic strip that was published in 1981. The artists, Ferd Johnson (1905-1996) and Tom Johnson of Corona Del Mar, California, presented the work to the Poe Museum in 1981 and inscribed it with a dedication to the Museum.

The comic strip Moon Mullins was created by Frank Willard (1893-1958) and ran from 1923 until 1991. Ferd Johnson began working as Willard's assistant and took over the strip after Willard's death. Johnson produced the comic for 68 years. Beginning in 1978, he was assisted by his son, Tom Johnson.
