August Holland (1928-1998) is primarily known as a maritime artist, but, early in his careet, he produced a number of illustrations, including the present work, which dates to the 1960s.

The framed print was donated to the museum in 2009 by Sandra J. Powell, who said it had been hanging in her home for almost forty years.
