Description: Edgar Allan Poe's only sister appears here in later years. After the death of Eliza Poe, her daughter Rosalie was taken in by the Mackenzie family in Richmond. The Mackenzie family lost its fortune after the Civil War, and, after the death of her foster mother Jane Scott Mackenzie, Rosalie Poe lived with different Poe and Mackenzie relatives in Virginia and Maryland. Ms. Poe also earned money in her later years by selling photographs of her brother. In 1874, she died in the Epiphany Church Home in Washington D.C. The photograph was purchased, along with a number of Mackenzie family possessions, from Mackenzie descendants.Search CollectionCategories
