"The Fall of the House of Usher" Etching by Robert Lawson
Description:Robert Lawson (1892-1957) was a popular children's book author and illustrator who was the first to win both the Coldecott Medal and the Newbury Medal. In the 1930s, Lawson experimented with etching and won the John Taylor Arms Prize from the Society of American Etchers.
His etching "The Fall of the House of Usher" won an award in 1931 while on exhibit with the Society of American Etchers. The etching was printed in an edition of 100 copies. The Poe Museum owns an artist's proof and two additional copies. The artist donated these pieces to the Poe Museum.
