Sketch of Mrs. Yarrington's Boarding House
This sketch was made based on descriptions of the house provided to James H. Whitty after the building's demolition. The sketch was reproduced in the book Poe: The Man (1926) by Mary Phillips.
Description: These benches are said to be made of granite salvaged from Mrs. Yarrington's Boarding House on Bank Street in Richmond, Virginia. Poe moved into the house with his aunt Maria Clemm and cousin Virginia Clemm on October 3, 1835, and, by some accounts, his wedding ceremony took place there on May 16, 1836. The owner of the boarding house, Mrs. James Yarrington was one of the guests at Poe's wedding.Search CollectionCategories
