This tintype photograph of Edgar Allan Poe's only sister Rosalie Poe (1810-1874) shows her in her later years. Rosalie Poe lived with her foster family, the Mackenzies of Richmond, Virginia, until 1865, when her foster mother's death and the financial ruin of the Mackenzie family left her in poverty, spending her remaining years depenant on the charity of Poe and Mackenzie relatives and other charitable friends. She left the photograph with her benefactors, the Turpins, whose descendants donated it to the Poe Museum.
