Description:

This staircase was salvaged from the home in which Edgar Allan Poe lived with his foster parents, John and Frances Allan, at 14th and Tobacco Alley in Richmond from 1822 until 1825, when he moved with the Allans to a larger home at 5th and Main Streets.

The owner of the house, Henry S. Hutzler donated the piece to the Poe Museum in 1927. The building has since been demolished.
